Maymont Park is one of Richmond’s most iconic wedding locations — a 100-acre historic estate filled with lush gardens, elegant architecture, and endless photo opportunities. It’s a favorite for couples who want a romantic outdoor ceremony without leaving the city.
Maymont combines manicured gardens, stone fountains, historic buildings, and peaceful natural areas, making it versatile for many wedding styles. You can book ceremonies, receptions, or both, with spaces ranging from formal gardens to indoor reception halls. The "big tree" is a popular spot for ceremonies and looks stunning at sunset.
Booking & Pricing Overview
Ceremony site fees: Starting at $500, depending on season.
Capacity: Many spaces accommodate up to 200 guests.
What’s included: Tables, chairs, setup/takedown, parking, and access to specific areas depending on the booking.
Update: I reached out to Maymont for more specific information and this is what they told me for booking options:
Historic Estate Ceremony and Reception Package: Couples can choose to get married in the Italian Garden, at the Blue Atlas Cedar, or Tulip Poplar Tree. For the reception, we offer two venues to choose from: the Environmental Education Center & West Terrace (150 seated, 200 cocktail style) or Garden Hall (70 seated, 100 cocktail style). This package ranges from $4,000-$6,000.
Historic Estate Ceremony Only Package: If a couple is simply looking for a ceremony venue, this could be a great option! Couples can choose to get married in the Italian Garden, at the Blue Atlas Cedar, or Tulip Poplar Tree. This package can also accommodate up to 200 guests and ranges from $1,800-$2,500.
1000 Westover Ceremony and Reception Package: 1000 Westover can accommodate up to 80 guests seated and 100 guests for a cocktail-style event. The base rate will vary from $4,500-$6,000. This venue lends you access to the entire first floor of our newly renovated historic home, which includes an outdoor courtyard, perfect for the ceremony! This package also allows couples to get married under a tree of their choice on Picnic Hill, a local landscape on the grounds of Maymont.
Micro-Wedding Reservations: Micro-weddings are self-orchestrated ceremonies for up to 32 guests. They can take place on weekdays, or weekends subject to availability. Weekday micro-weddings start at $250 and weekend micro-weddings start at $500. This reservation will lend you access to the estate for wedding festivities such as the ceremony, photos, etc. This package is considered no staff / no services. Regarding the ceremony location, the couple is more than welcome to choose any outdoor space on the estate.
Spring and fall book up quickly, so reserving well in advance is essential.
Best Photo Spots in Maymont
Maymont is one of the most photogenic venues in Richmond. Popular spots include:
The Italian Garden – Classic columns, terraces, and fountains.
The Japanese Garden – Waterfalls, koi pond, bridges, and stepping stones.
The Mansion Exterior & Historic Stonework – Elegant, timeless backdrops.
Scenic Trails & Open Lawns – Perfect for candid, relaxed portraits.

For ideal lighting and fewer crowds, I recommend doing an engagement session in the morning or early afternoon. If you want golden-hour photos, be mindful of the park’s closing times, which vary seasonally.
Tips for a Smooth Maymont Wedding
Book early — especially for popular garden areas.
Have a rain plan if you’re booking outdoors.
Consider a weekday or off-peak date to avoid crowds.
Coordinate your photography timeline carefully due to park hours.

With its variety of landscapes and historic charm, Maymont Park offers one of the most picturesque and flexible wedding settings in Richmond. Whether you want a garden ceremony, mansion-side portraits, or an elegant outdoor reception, Maymont delivers a uniquely romantic backdrop.
